In 1997 we rented an apartment in this charming little town. Ever since then we had a goal to come back here with our own home, Gilana. It was a very emotional scene as we dropped anchor in the bay of Sant Elmo.
A lovely sunset welcomed and congratulated us on our arrival.
There wasn't a breath of wind in the bay, here Liz takes Jack for a dinghy ride to go and investigate some fishy activity.
Liz holds up 'Lucky' a baby seagull chased into the water by tourists before his wings had time to oil over. Jack was kind enough to let 'Lucky' take up residence next to 'Witblits' our hard sailing dinghy, Jacks normal summer house.
**********ANDRATX!**********
We spent quite some time in Andratx, mainly because of a Feista that was happening at that time.
Jack, Liz and Mike sailing in the little dinghy "Witblitz"
(L-R)Tory, Emma, Caitlin, Marsy, Liz and Matt. Some friends from way back and some new ones.
Liz keeps watch in her favourite seat. Liz went in the dinghy to take a picture of Gilana sailing with a backdrop of the cliff face.
True 'PUPPY' love!
**********SANTA PONÇA **********
LOOK!!! A REAL LILIPUTIAN!
(mom stands next to the floats of King Jaime I and his queen Isabella)
It was in Santa Ponça that King Jaime 1 landed on 10 September 1229 to liberate Mallorca from 300 years of Moorish occupation. This explains the strong Moorish influence on the culture and architecture here. The island became part of the kingdom of Aragon, and later Spain. A small church was built on the hill behind Santa Ponça, called the Chapel of Sa Pedra Sagrada, it is said to be the place where the Christians first celebrated mass after their conquest of the island.
Re-enactment of the clash between the forces of King Jaime I and Saracen troops.
On Friday 5th September we experienced a freak tornado of 100 knots, here the Aerogen got caught unprepared and lost all it's blades in a sudden 'Micro burst'. We later discovered three of the six blades more than 300 metres from the boat! Read
about this incredible little storm.
Beach umbrellas were stacked up against Mc Donalds door step.
It was apparent when we went ashore that those of us at sea were better off that those on shore as the sudden wind caused havoc on the beach as well as uprooting several trees. This guy was not to pleased when he returned to his car later that day.
Rob and Selma from the boat 'Stavast' and Laura at our favourite restaurant Toni and Xisca's. Frankly we would have walked on past this little place had we not been taken there as guests. The people eating here have come here for 14 years and the food is the reason, it is excellent and very reasonable.
Love at first sight, thats what happened when we saw this house. Liz tries some of moms hair dye and goes 'RED' doing it.
These are all the masks we have recovered while snorkelling since we arrived in Mallorca.
