19 to 27 July

Gilana moored next to an unfortunate boat. On Sunday 23 July, we went to bed around midnight and the next morning, the neighbour had sunk!

The new shopping centre right at the Cumanogoto Marina. It was a great place to shop. We did eat out here, as the prices were incredibly reasonable. The street rate of exchange was 2400 Bolivares to the US$. For instance, three Empanadas and three coffees came to 12000 Bolivares. We could not help but notice the boobs on the women here. WOW ! they are huge and outstanding. We asked a woman in the restaurant how many of them were "Enhanced" quite coincidentally she works in a plastic surgery clinic doing statistical analysis of exactly that! Miriam told us that about 60% are silicone and even more interesting is that 67% of all local women have considered it. That means that 90% of those that think about it, do it. Well all we can say is NICE WORK GUYS!

Colourful local "Lanceros" The fuel price here is amazing! it is 48 Bolivares per litre. Lets put that in perspective. That is 1.8 Euro cents per litre, so we filled our tanks buying 750 litres, it cost us € 13.50. Now in Spain (which is reasonable) that same amount would have cost us € 787.00

One of the security towers in the marina, manned by a shotgun toting security guard that earns about $180.00 per month.

A view of the marina from the restaurant patio. SCULPIN lies amongst the boats in the distance.

We met a very nice person here. Ricardo in his little restaurant, he was most helpful, informative and friendly. IF you come to Cumanagoto please visit him. Hola amigo que tal? HE has the best coffee in the whole place.

We came here to find a place to haul GILANA and do some maintenance. Unfortunately the best place here Navimca, did not have enough depth of water in their harbour. We left for Puerto La Cruz, motoring in flat calm, to find a place to haul.

On the way, there were hundreds of Dolphin, of course we could not get a photo of the ones that came really close, and almost wanted to interact, the photos were always just a few milliseconds too soon or too late.

Arriving in Puerto La Cruz. Infinite wealth surrounded by infinite poverty. We are here in PLC now, and we haul GILANA on Monday 7 August. updates to follow with lots of pictures of maintenace. We have not hauled for 6 YEARS!!! wow that Anti-Fouling paint was good. :)
