Well we came here to do maintenance, and we hauled Gilana out at Aqua-Vi yard after getting quotes at all the PLC yards. We were thrilled to bump into "Kindred Spirit" and our friends Brad and Gloria aboard. We had last seen them in Georgetown Bahamas in 2002. Here Brad watched us get lifted out.
She JUST cleared the ground.
Always a stressful time when the boat is not in her element.
They struggled to get her straight, as the ground was soft and muddy. We were not happy about that.
As soon as the ladder was up, Jack wanted to get aboard.
Liz's cabin was transformed into a chandlery and paintstore.
The most important job was to fit new bearings and recondition the Hundested variable pitch propeller control mechanism that we had "jury rigged" in St Maarten. Things got really dirty with grease while manhandling it out of its home.
Here the new bearing has been fitted and I am running a tap through all the threaded holes to clear debris.
Laura, always helping in all departments, applies finishing touches to the Pitch control worm gear.
Just finished assembly of the main components.
The "Like New" components awaiting mounting in the engine room.
Rigging the assembly in. It weighs 40 Kg (88 pounds)
Nearly done. When this job was completed we decided to put Gilana back in the water as we were unhappy about several things in this yard. One was the price quoted for repainting, and the main one was that we were sinking into the mud further every day, and the yard refused to acknowledge it or take steps to prevent us falling over.
So we put her back in the water without new bottom paint and with the old anodes still in place. We then went in search of a different yard to complete the work.
