Liz and James signing the register in Gibraltar. Unfortunately the rules allowing marriage in Spain were difficult to comply with. Equally, England required a different class of visa for Liz as she still has a South African passport. Laura and I were not able to attend this ceremony as Gibraltar also required a visa for me being South African. The decision was made to have a simple civil ceremony in Gibraltar, and a repeat ceremony in Spain with the reception.

The newlyweds.

In Port d'Andratx, on 21st July they celebrated another ceremony. Here the Llaut Ariel skippered by a friend Xavier and decorated to the delight of the crowds in the port, makes her way across the bay to the Club de Vela Port d'Andratx where...

...the guests awaited to the sounds of Pavarotti's Nessun Dorma.

A welcome drink, while Laura sorts out the train. The music was Awa-Awa, by Deep Forest.

I welcomed the guests, who had travelled from all over the world, then reaching for my cheat sheet...

I had the honour and priveledge to conduct a non religious ceremony for them. Because we have travelled so far and wide, and met so many remarkable cultures, I had searched to find an appropriate secular wedding blessing. The result was something based upon an Apache Indian rite. "

Liz said " My darling James, I loved you from the moment we met, I promise to be faithful to you, to honour you and support you,
no matter what challenges may arise I will be devoted to you, I promise this for the rest of my life, Please would you be my husband?"

James replies " Yes I will, I too loved you from the moment we met, I too promise to be faithful to you, to honour and support you,
No matter what challenges may arise, I will be devoted to you, and I promise this for the rest of my life, Please would you be my wife?"....

...Liz replies "Yes I will"

While rings are exchanged, and the veil removed, I say

"Now you will feel no rain, for each of you will be shelter for the other.
Now you will feel no cold, for each of you will be warmth to the other.
Now there will be no loneliness, for each of you will be companion to the other.
Now you are two persons, but there is only one life before you.
May beauty surround you both in the journey ahead and through all the years,
May happiness be your companion and your days together be good and long upon the earth."
