San Blas - Why go anywhere else

1 January to 4 April

It was time for Liz to come and visit us again.

The main theme for this visit was to be kitesurfing related, but at our launch zone Liz found this Kings Helmet Conch

Which was placed in deeper water for better chances of survival.

We started with the trainer kite, a fast 1.5m kite that helps learn kite control very quickly.

Liz with the trainer, and Laura distracts her, while I ride in the background. It is important to be able to control the kite without thinking about it, like riding a bicycle.

Next we tried the Ozone Edge 11m but it was too fast and powerful for a first time...

As you can see...

...so we went to the Advance 12m slower and less of a handful.

.....

We teach on this sand bank where short runs can be done, and then you can just walk backwards (to Christmas) to try again.

.....

....

..........

...

......

In deeper waters, we use the dinghy to come back upwind.

.....

Time to break out the Ozone again as the skills improve.

......

.....

Having trouble holding the edge of the board in the water.

BAR OUT! BAR OUT!

......

After a few runs, we realised that the board was too big for her, (140x40) so..

..we changed to a 128x35 and things went much better.

Then the winds dropped and it was time to relax, island style.

.....

.........

You might wonder why we stand so high in the dinghy with an extension on the tiller, it's to navigate through shallows, the extra height gives a better view as we do not want to damage the coral.

..........

If you remember the comic strip characters "Hi and Lois" there were some garbage men, Abercrombie and Fitch, who had a hat like that.

Looking for Lionfish.

The oldies off kiting again.

.....

Not only Red Bull gives you wings

..........

First time Laura and I kiting together

........

Happiness is a stiff canopy.

......

Laura got back from her session just in time...

...to find Culantro

......

Taking on water at Rio Azucar.

This little fruit eating bat must have been chased out of his hiding during daytime. Flew away and hung out on the boat for a while. We fed him a Banana and later he flew away quite happily.

......

Here I try Justinos Ulu, it isn't easy!
