This is not a very good panorama, but these pictures nearly line up to give an idea of the situation of the marina.
Liz and the kids. Top right. Ken, Brad, Mary, Mike and Jamie. Below. Liz and her best friend here, Michelle Bieda.
Some of the lights that illuminated the Festa.
Mike watching the passing parade. An amateur clown in costume.
Top. We also watched a Torneo a Cordo from Gilana. They unleashed the bulls right on the beach. We have some nice video footage of this, possibly we will publish it here. Below. Liz and Michelle, at Bumpercars.
The Gang hanging out at an open air jazz venue.
Right, explanation time. (Confessional) We made friends with some people from the Lajes Airforce Base. Jim and Sandy's daughter Michelle was hanging out with Liz. Cid and Junia, our dear friends from Brazil, who had sailed across the N. Atlantic with us were also there. We were invited by Jim, our friend in Praia who insisted that we try this Mexican restaurant. After a meal the waitresses converge on your table with bandoliers of shot glasses which they slam onto the table so hard that the cloth is holed. They fill up the glasses with tequila, and then as one they scream AAAAAAARRRRRIBA!!! (this can be heard above the music from across the street) at which time one is expected to swallow the tequila. Well we were not interested in this, so we opted for Pineapple Margaritas instead as they sounded much more benign. The recipe is one bottle of tequila, one can of pineapple concentrate and two cups of sugar, in a pitcher and mix well and add ice. They poured me one glass full and it was delicious, no kick at all and difficult to believe that one could become inebriated at all. So, I had one more, and then something funny happened, somebody stole my legs. All the other people at the table were laughing, and taking pictures of me. The presentable ones are those published here like "Junia, Cid, and some drunken bum in the process of falling off his chair." "Sandy, Jims wife, offered a shoulder too." "Big Red, a friend of ours spent most of his time waving his hands in the air, he was a real fan."
Some of the procession. Some floats were religious, some not, all were fun. The municipality had invited and paid about 25 clowns to do their thing for the public. It was a GREAT festa.
